The GIANTS have been recongnised for their outstanding coverage of the AFL Women’s competition by claiming the club’s first Australian Football Media Award.
The GIANTS’ media department was presented with the Best Coverage of AFLW by a club at the MCG on Tuesday night.
Judged as the club that best utilised its own media platforms to showcase and cover all aspects of the third season of the AFLW, the GIANTS’ submission included the KIA Power to Surprise videos that told the stories of Haneen Zreika’s and Tait Mackrill’s debuts.
The videos, which received national media coverage and hundreds of thousands of views on social media, and an article on defender Pepa Randall, which would inspire the AFL to include Randall’s story as part of their Don’t Believe in Never campaign, were deemed the best in the field by the AFMA Committee.
“This award is recognition of the outstanding work done by the GIANTS’ communications department,” GIANTS Chief Executive David Matthews said.
“Their efforts in telling the stories of the players within our AFL Women’s program and highlight the pathways that are available for female footballers in NSW and the ACT has been magnificent in 2019.
“At the GIANTS we pride ourselves on being a club like no other and we live this every day through our AFL, AFLW and GIANTS Netball teams and are looking forward to continuing to be innovative and engaging with more and more people through in the coming weeks and months.”
GIANTS forward Dylan Buckley recieved a commendable mention for his podcast Dyl & Friends in the Best Podcast category that was won by the Herald Suns' Sacked.
