“My father is Leon Cameron and my coach is Leon Cameron as well.”
No, Jeremy Cameron is not making a joke.
The Coleman Medal front-runner’s father and his coach share the same name.

Speaking on The Footy Phil, the GIANTS’ forward revealed that he’s had to name them differently in his phonebook to ensure there are no awkward phone calls or texts, but that his father has taken advantage of the coincidence.
“I actually have my coach under Leon Cameron and dad under dad,” Cameron said.
“I’ve not mucked up there, but I know my old man has used ‘I’m Leon Cameron’ to get into the changerooms a couple of times and he’s got straight through.”
It’s probably fair that Cameron’s father uses that excuse, given the GIANTS’ coach was unknowingly credited with pulling in a few monster fish.
“I remember once when I was younger, we were down in Portland (Victoria) and dad had a few really nice catches,” Cameron recalls.
“Dad caught a few big fish and there was a reporter there and he said, ‘what’s your name mate?’ and he said ‘Leon Cameron’.
“Then it came out in the paper that the Footballer Leon Cameron was out in Portland catching fish.”
While on the podcast the 26-year-old – who has taken after his father’s love for fishing – spoke to GIANTS co-captain Phil Davis and GIANTS Media’s Alison Zell about his hot start to the 2019 season, his hometown of Dartmoor, and reflected on the GIANTS’ win over Gold Coast.
Cameron said that the GIANTS were pushed by Gold Coast in the first half before they kicked away to a comfortable 83 point win at GIANTS Stadium on Saturday.
“We don’t mind playing football that way and as a team we know other teams will come at us and we’ve got to withstand that pressure,” he said.
“Then we can sort of do what we do on the back of that.
“It was good on the weekend to just grind it out and then unleash from the shackles after that.”
