GIANTS star Jeremy Cameron has continued his hot start to the season kicking six-goals haul St Kilda on Saturday, with coach Leon Cameron lauding his forward's impact in key moments this season.
Cameron's half dozen against the Saints gives him 30 goals from seven games at an average of 4.3 per match this season, and he was the difference between the two sides when the GIANTS really needed him to produce at UNSW Canberra oval.
The Saints fought back from 43 points down early in the second quarter to get within 15 points midway through the third, before Cameron stamped his class on the contest.
His third goal from a 50m penalty steadied the GIANTS, before another outstanding individual effort sapped St Kilda's charge.
After taking a mark on centre wing and pumping the ball forward, Cameron ran on and later in the passage of play, launched himself at a high ball deep in the the GIANTS forward 50 to take a courageous grab.
He went back and kicked his fifth before two in a row to Harry Himmelberg put the GIANTS 39 points up, with the home side eventually prevailing by 44.
"No doubt he is on top of his game at the moment and he is dangerous every time the ball goes near him, something is going to happen," his coach said post-match.
"There's some moments in games where something has to happen, and he is making it happen, and I'm really proud of him.
"He is in a really good rich vein of form but equally he is just such a casual person and he will recover and look forward to just going and playing next Sunday.
"He loves his footy at the moment and we love what he is doing."
Cameron's amazing start to the year has brought up the age-old debate about the 100-goal season and while he is on track, should the GIANTS play multiple finals, Leon Cameron wouldn't be drawn into the debate.
"Everyone wants to see a goalkicker, supporters like it. We like it," he said.
"If he's hitting the scoreboard then fantastic, bring it on, but we've got a long way to go in the season.
"One thing I do like about his game is he is very, very selfless, and if he sees a better option he'll always take it.
"Right now, he is getting the looks nought to 30 out (from goal) but if he sees something better he'll definitely take it."
The GIANTS were without co-captain Phil Davis (ankle), and star runners Josh Kelly (adductor) and Lachie Whitfield (adductor/corked thigh) against the Saints, but all three are expected to push for selection in next Sunday's match against Hawthorn.
The trio would be welcome inclusions with Aidan Corr set to miss games after rolling his right ankle late against St Kilda, and Adam Kennedy playing no part in the second half due to a head knock.
