GIANTS coach Leon Cameron has talked up Matt de Boer's versatility, saying he might not have another tagging job against Geelong.
The GIANTS onballer drove Richmond star Dustin Martin to distraction last weekend, keeping him to just 15 disposals as the GIANTS posted a big win.
Martin had a filthy day at GIANTS Stadium that cost him a one-match suspension and a $7500 fine.
While Tigers coach Damien Hardwick was fuming at de Boer's tactics, he also had grudging respect for his effectiveness.
While it begs the obvious question – whether de Boer is sent to Patrick Dangerfield, Joel Selwood or Tim Kelly in Saturday's big game at GMHBA Stadium – Cameron said his onballer might have another role.
"You have to be really careful, you have to be able to pick your moments," Cameron said.
"Sometimes (run-with) works, sometimes it doesn't.
"We haven't traditionally been a club that does this a lot, so it's sort of a week-to-week thing for us.
"But the good thing about it – and I reinforce – is that Matty de Boer is flexible at doing most things, in terms of freewheeling and run-with roles."
The GIANTS are yet to win in four trips to Geelong and Cameron said the opposition, rather than the venue, is the big issue.
"We understand the magnitude of the task ahead, but we feel as though we're in pretty good nick," he said.
"Clearly they're a really good team and they've been in finals footy for about 10-12 years.
"We have to make sure we back up our form over the last couple of weeks.
"We need to bring our best performance because if you don't, clearly you don't win down there."
After welcoming back Josh Kelly and Shane Mumford, the GIANTS now regain co-captain Callan Ward from injury in another significant boost.
"He's confident – he's the sort of player you love in those contested moments (in Geelong)," Cameron said of Ward.
"He's co-captain for a reason.
"They have some great contested-ball players, and we like to think we have as well."
