With the GIANTS and the Western Bulldogs heading into an historic Preliminary Final at Spotless Stadium on Saturday, we look at the stats that could determine who progresses to the 2016 Toyota AFL Grand Final.
The Western Bulldogs lead the competition in a number of areas in 2016.
They are first for disposals with an average of 413 per game and average the most handballs with 201.
The Dogs also win more contested ball than any other club, while the GIANTS are just behind in fourth position.
It’s the willingness of the Bulldogs to commit to the contest and put their head over the ball (number one in the competition for hard ball gets) that leads them to win more free kicks than their opposition (first in the AFL for free kick differential).
It’s not all doom and gloom for the home side though, with the GIANTS leading the competition for forward 50 stoppages.
On the other hand, the Western Bulldogs have averaged just 45 inside 50s per game, the lowest in the AFL.
Despite that stat, you can expect a high scoring game with the Western Bulldogs averaging 103 points per game in their two finals; an increase on the 74 points they averaged per game in the Premiership Season.
Meanwhile, the GIANTS have been one of the highest scoring sides all year, kicking 107 points per game.
The Western Bulldogs' backline will need to be on their toes with Jeremey Cameron having kicked 19 goals in five games against them, including a bag of five in the round nine clash.
Cameron is just two goals away from becoming the first GIANT to kick 100 goals at Spotless Stadium.
For the Western Bulldogs, it’s just their second time playing at the GIANTS’ home ground, having lost by 25 points in round nine.
The GIANTS play the Western Bulldogs in a Preliminary Final on Saturday, September 24 at Spotless Stadium. Bouncedown is 5.15pm.
