The GIANTS today announced that Jason McCartney has been appointed to the position of General Manger, Football Operations and confirmed the departure of Wayne Campbell.
McCartney joined the GIANTS as List Manager following the 2017 AFL season, having held that role at the Western Bulldogs during the Club’s Premiership season, following coaching roles with the Fremantle Dockers and leading the AFL/AIS Academy.
McCartney takes up the role General Manager, Football Operations effective immediately. Wayne Campbell departs the club after four seasons after joining the GIANTS prior to the 2016 AFL season.
GIANTS Chief Executive Officer David Matthews welcomed McCartney’s appointment and thanked Campbell for his contribution during a successful period for the club as a whole.
“Following the conclusion of the 2019 AFL season we carefully assessed the structure of our Football Department and have identified enhanced performance in a number of key areas,” Mr Matthews said.
“Jason McCartney brings a wealth of experience to this new role and he has done an outstanding job overseeing player retention and acquisition. Jason’s existing relationships with our playing group, coaching staff and wider football department staff sees him well placed to ensure a smooth leadership transition as we head towards the 2020 AFL and AFLW seasons.
“We wish Wayne Campbell the best for the future and thank him for his contribution since joining the club at the start of the 2016 AFL season.”
