Summary: What a year it’s been for Cam “Sunshine” McCarthy who exploded onto the AFL scene with a breakout season. The mobile forward kicked 35 goals in 20 games and cemented himself as a key target. McCarthy had an exceptional first half of the season, averaging nearly three goals a game before the mid-way point. He was also considered one of the favourites for the NAB AFL Rising Star Award. McCarthy tired in the second half of the season and needed a break from senior football. He spent two matches in the NEAFL before being recalled for the final five matches.

Pat On The Back: McCarthy is only the second GIANT in history to kick more than 30 goals in a season (along with Jeremy Cameron).

What They Said: "It's been a bit of a surprise. I wasn't looking to play too many footy games this year in the ones; I was just looking to have a solid year in the twos," - Cam McCarthy.

Look Ahead: Cam McCarthy is contracted until at least the end of 2017 and is a required player according to coach Leon Cameron. McCarthy will look to improve his engine over of the off-season to run out games better and maintain fitness throughout the year.
