The Greater Western Sydney GIANTS will have the first two selections in this year’s NAB AFL Draft after the first day of the Gillette AFL Trade Period in Melbourne.
The GIANTS will also have selection 12, meaning the club will have three of the first 12 picks at November’s Draft.
In a busy first day of the trade period, the GIANTS made the following trades:
· Exchanged first pick in the mini-draft (Jack Martin) to Gold Coast in return for selections two and 63 at NAB AFL Draft.
· Exchanged Tom Lee (previously listed player) and selections 24 and 43 in NAB AFL Draft to St Kilda in return for selection 12.
GIANTS List Manager Stephen Silvagni said the club was very pleased with the outcome of the first day of the trade period with two deals finalised and will continue discussions in the coming days over possible trades for the final mini draft selection.
“Last year we were able to secure 11 of the first 14 selections at the draft and this year we will be able to secure more of the best young talent in the country. This will help us form the nucleus of a very exciting young playing list as we build towards ultimate premiershipsuccess,” Silvagni said.
“In 2012 we had a record eight NAB AFL Rising Star nominations and already seven of those have signed long term contracts at the GIANTS. This along with the other players we have secured on our list over the past 12 months sets the club up for a very exciting long term future.”
