GIANTS midfielder Annise Bradfield has retired from the AFLW after struggling to overcome a chronic knee injury.

Originally selected by the Gold Coast with pick No.7 in the 2020 AFLW Draft, Bradfield played five games for the Suns before joining the GIANTS with pick 22 in the 2022 AFLW Supplementary Draft.

The 21-year-old was forced to watch her entire first season at the GIANTS from the sidelines after requiring season-ending surgery on a Lisfranc injury suffered during the pre-season.

Following a tough run with injuries and a diligent rehab program, Bradfield returned to play her first AFLW game in 735 days in round five this season, marking almost exactly two years to the weekend that she last took the field for the Suns.

Bradfield retires having played 8 games for both the Suns and GIANTS.

GIANTS Executive General Manager of AFLW and Football Operations, Alison Zell, thanked the outgoing midfielder.

“We’d like to thank Annise for her contributions to the GIANTS,” Zell said.

“Unfortunately, Annise struggled with injuries during her time with the club which impacted her ability to play consistent football.

"Annise continued to support her teammates throughout her challenges with injury and should be commended for her attitude and resilience.

“We’d like to wish Annise all the best for the future.”
