GIANTS fans eager to get their first look at this year’s exciting and new-look AFLW lineup will get their wish in the coming weeks with the club set to clash with the Kangaroos and Swans in a pair of official pre-season hit-outs.
The GIANTS will ramp up their pre-season preparations when they host the crosstown rival Swans in Blacktown on Saturday, August 10 in a Match Simulation Training session.
The hit-out between the fierce rivals will allow the clubs to dictate the conditions of the session, with the clubs to agree beforehand on the number of players used, the game length, and the number of breaks as they clash in preparation for the upcoming AFLW season.
The GIANTS will take their preparations to another level a week later with an official AFLW practice match with the Kangaroos in Blacktown on Saturday, August 17 at 11am.
The match, which will be free for all fans to attend and also live-streamed on the GIANTS website, will be the first chance for GIANTS fans to get a first-hand look at their 2024 lineup featuring eight new GIANTS, including exciting number three pick Kaitlyn Srhoj.
GIANTS Executive General Manager - Football Strategy and Operations, Briana Harvey, said the club is excited to have the two hit-outs locked in.
“We are really looking forward to taking on both the Swans and the Kangaroos next month as we continue to prepare for what’s going to be an exciting 2024 season,” Harvey said.
“We welcomed eight new faces to the team this year and the practice match and the match simulation will provide us a great opportunity to further gel our young and emerging group together.
“We recently completed our pre-season camp which was a huge success for the group and with the season just around the corner we’re excited to continue to ramp things up in the coming weeks leading into a really exciting AFLW season.”
The GIANTS will kickstart their 2024 campaign with a huge round one clash with the Bulldogs in Canberra on Saturday, August 31.
