The GIANTS donned their Big Freeze beanies at training on Thursday in support of the upcoming Big Freeze 10 event and the Fight MND Foundation.

The Big Freeze returns for its 10th instalment at this year’s King’s Birthday clash at the MCG on Monday in support of Neale Daniher’s inspiring efforts to raise money to find a cure for ‘The Beast’ that is Motor Neurone Disease.

The GIANTS are proud to support the cause, with the GIANTS training in this year’s Big Freeze beanies on Thursday.

The entire GIANTS playing list purchased Big Freeze 10 beanies as well as Big Freeze socks, donating money to the meaningful cause.

Motor Neurone Disease currently affects more than 2000 Australians, with Daniher diagnosed in 2013 before starting the Big Freeze initiative in 2015.

From diagnosis, people with MND usually have an average life expectancy of just 27 months and today, two Australians will die from MND, and two more will be diagnosed.

GIANTS Executive General Manager of Football, Jason McCartney, said the club is proud to join the football community in banding together to support Fight MND.

“What Neale has done over the last decade is nothing short of remarkable,” McCartney said.

“Neale had a huge contribution to the AFL landscape during his playing and coaching days but the fight and resilience he’s shown and the impact he’s had in the Australian community over the past 10 years is simply inspiring.

“All of us have watched in awe at Neale’s courage and determination and we are proud to do anything we can to support this extremely worthwhile cause.

“The whole football world stands with Neale in his fight, and we encourage anyone who has the means to donate to Fight MND and bring us closer to a cure for this debilitating disease.”

The Big Freeze is hosted annually at the MCG on the King’s Birthday and is the main fundraising event for Fight MND.

Each year the Big Freeze features well-known Australian personalities in a range of costumes sliding into a giant pool of ice before the annual clash between Melbourne and Collingwood.
