Xavier O’Halloran, Leek Aleer and Phoenix Gothard will bolster a strong GIANTS VFL team for its clash with the Swans on Saturday afternoon.
The AFL-listed trio come into a side looking for its fourth-straight win in a match which will serve as a curtain closer to the Battle of the Bridge AFL clash earlier in the afternoon.
Despite impressing at AFL level across the past two weeks, Aleer will return to VFL level on Saturday after making way in the AFL side for returning All-Australian defender Sam Taylor.
Having played in all seven of the club’s AFL games this season, O’Halloran will play his first VFL match of the year on Saturday after being the unlucky omission in the AFL side for superstar Toby Greene, who returns after serving a one-match suspension.
Meanwhile Gothard, the club’s first pick in last year’s Draft with pick 12, will play his second VFL game of the year after missing the past two games with illness.
Tom McCaffrey, Taine Moraschi and James Creighton have been omitted for the AFL trio.
16 AFL-listed GIANTS will feature in Saturday’s showdown with the Swans, with Isaac Cumming playing his second game of the season at the level as he looks to push for a senior return after overcoming a pre-season calf injury.
Following a 17-point loss to Footscray in round one, the GIANTS have since won their past three games, including an impressive win over reigning grand finalists Werribee in round four, to sit sixth on the VFL table heading into round six.
The GIANTS’ VFL side will take on the Swans at the SCG at 5:15pm on Saturday following the AFL clash between the clubs, which starts at 1:45pm.
