As we head into Sydney Derby XII, let’s take a look at the stats that could make a difference come the final siren at the SCG on Saturday night.

The Swans lead the competition for stoppages per game, however they will need to be extra vigilant around ruck contests.

So far in 2017 the GIANTS have averaged 44.3 clearances per game (the best in the competition), compared to the Swans’ average of 39 per match.

When it comes to centre bounces, the Swans will hope the return of Kurt Tippett will help quell the influence of the GIANTS’ midfield with the GIANTS equal second in the competition for centre clearances while the Swans sit in 15th place.

In terms of scoring, the Swans - despite the fact they’ve yet to kick a score of 100 points or more - are in top four form when it comes to scoring from centre bounce clearances and rebounds from defensive 50. 

While the Swans are yet to crack a ton, the GIANTS have been one of the highest scoring sides of the competition kicking 69 goals in their four games thus far with their lowest score being 14.7 (90) in the round one loss to Adelaide.

The Swans will have spent the week working on their tackling pressure, disposal and contested possessions as last year’s grand finalists currently rank in the bottom four of the AFL in these key areas. 

One stat that is heavily in the Swans favour is their performances against the GIANTS at their home ground, the SCG.

Sydney hasn’t lost a game against the GIANTS at the SCG, with the closest margin 21-points coming in round three, 2015.
