Michael Walsh, an Irish strength and conditioning coach, has travelled half-way around the world to spend time learning from the GIANTS.
The former Ireland International Rules player and current sports physiotherapist recently joined the GIANTS’ Athletic Performance Unit (APU) as part of the club’s new Immersion Program.
Walsh, who coaches at local gaelic club Mayobridge and also county side Down, said it was extremely beneficial spending time at an elite club.
“The GIANTS have a great professional environment to work in, particularly coming from my background in gaelic which is an amateur sport,” Walsh said.
“It’s interesting to see all the different roles of the various specialists and how they work to get the best out of the players and the team.
“Rubbing shoulders with great coaches such as Leon Cameron and his team has also been fantastic.
“Chances like this to learn in a professional environment don’t come around too often so it was definitely worth the trip over from Ireland.”
Walsh split his time helping implement the GIANTS’ strength and conditioning program as well as assisting club physiotherapists with their daily duties.
He also watched various aspects of training and took part in coaches meetings and reviews.
Walsh praised GIANTS' Head of Athletic Performance David Joyce for opening up the club to other sports science professionals.
The GIANTS’ Immersion Program gives participants a hands-on experience in their chosen field.
