For young GIANTS midfielder Stephen Coniglio tomorrow’s historic match at Blacktown will bring him face to face with some of his boyhood heroes.
Born and raised in Perth, Coniglio was a passionate West Coast Eagles fan and modeled his junior football career on the players he idolized.
“It’s a pretty different feeling for me to the other games,” he said. “Growing up in Perth, I was a West Coast supporter all my life so I think you get a bit of extra motivation for this weekend.
“Dean Cox and Daniel Kerr were a part of the midfield I used to love with Chris Judd and Ben Cousins.
“I was always impressed with Kerr in particular. I don’t think I’ll get a chance to line up on him but any of their midfielders will be exciting to play on.”
Tomorrow is also a chance for Coniglio to convert some former West Coast fans with the talented sportsman’s family and friends making the trip over from Western Australia to watch him take on their local team.
“The whole family is coming over from Western Australia, including counsins and friends. There are probably about 20 people all up.
“They were all West Coast fans but they’ve all got the GIANTS kit now and will be wearing orange tomorrow.”
