Off the back of a club-record seven wins in a row and the significant re-signing of star swingman Harry Himmelberg, the GIANTS have broken another record – surpassing 32,700 members and setting a new membership record.
Reaching 32,704 members this week, the GIANTS have topped 30,000 members for the fifth consecutive season and broken last year’s record of 32,614, with another month of counting still to go.
With the club reaching great heights in season 2023 under new coach Adam Kingsley, the Orange Army have jumped on board to join the big big sound.
GIANTS Chief Executive Officer David Matthews said it is an exciting milestone for the club, on the eve of the biggest home game of the season.
“This is a significant achievement for the club after some of the hardships of recent years,” Mr Matthews said.
“While we’ve embarked on a new era in our AFL program under Adam Kingsley and in the AFLW under Cam Bernasconi, our members have remained as loyal as ever.
“Members are truly the heart and soul of any club and particularly for such a young club like us. Whether you’re a first-year member in 2023 or a foundation member in your 12th season, your support at GIANTS Stadium, Manuka Oval and right across the country is invaluable.
“For the second consecutive year, the GIANTS have over 6,000 passionate members based in ACT as we embark on our 12th season as the AFL team for all of Canberra.
“By the end of season 2023, we will have seen over 30,000 people attend their first-ever GIANTS game, a testament to the opportunity for growth that exists in our regions.
“And as we come into our biggest AFL home game of the season this Saturday night, we’re pleased to be 44 per cent up on attendances at GIANTS Stadium so far and looking forward to a crowd of over 20k for Sydney Derby XXVI.
“We look forward to welcoming many of those first-time attendees back to GIANTS Stadium for their second and third games across the remainder of 2023 and are full of excitement for a big AFLW season, starting in September.
“There’s truly no better time to be a GIANT.”
The GIANTS take on the Swans in a blockbuster Sydney Derby XXVI at GIANTS Stadium on Saturday night at 7:30pm.
