When you’re building an AFL club in Rugby League heartland, these are the stories that warm your heart.
Greg Wright from Narellan is the latest winner of the GIANTS’ Orange Ticket promotion with five money-can’t buy experiences hidden in 2016 membership packs across the country.
Greg’s 9-year-old son Flynn first learnt about AFL when development staff visited his primary school in Sydney’s west.
When he received free tickets to a GIANTS game from participating in a school and after-school Auskick program, he went along to a game with his dad and soon he was hooked.
“After we got tickets to a game, my son just wanted to go more and more,” Greg said.
“All of our dealings with the club were so positive, at games and school-holidays camps, meeting players in the fan zone - they were all so generous with their time and happy to chat and take photos.”
At the beginning of 2015 Greg bought his first GIANTS membership for himself, Flynn, his wife Vicki and their young daughter Aurelia.
They attended pretty much every game and even made the trips to Canberra to watch the GIANTS. Flynn also joined his local junior club, the Camden Blues, to play on the weekends.
When Greg’s 2016 ultimate membership pack arrived, it had a special surprise in it.
“All of the rest of my family’s packs arrived on the Friday and I thought it was a little suspicious mine hadn’t come yet,” Greg said.
“I knew exactly what the orange tickets were after reading about it on the website and I was hoping my pack contained a little extra.
“When I opened it and found it, it was so exciting.”
Greg won the chance to get a behind the scenes look at the life of a coach with changeroom access before and after the game and he’ll be able to take Flynn along as the next generation of kids in Western Sydney grow up with the GIANTS.
