The GIANTS bid farewell to midfielder Tim Taranto after a trade was reached with Richmond early in the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period.
The GIANTS have received picks 12 and 19 in next month’s NAB AFL Draft in exchange for the midfielder, with the GIANTS now holding three picks - including pick three - in the first 19 selections.
Taranto returns home to Melbourne following six seasons and 114 games in the orange and charcoal, after being selected at pick two in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft.
GIANTS General Manager of Football Jason McCartney said the club is pleased to bring in two strong draft selections.
“While we’d clearly prefer to keep all of our players, circumstances dictate otherwise and we're thrilled to secure a fantastic outcome for the GIANTS.
“We worked with Richmond to secure a suitable trade for our club, and we’re excited to take an extremely strong hand into this year’s draft to continue to build a successful list and add to our group with some of the country’s top talent.
“I would like to thank Tim for his contribution to the GIANTS over the past six years. He’s been a committed and consistent player for our club but received a lucrative offer elsewhere that he simply couldn’t refuse.
“We wish Tim all the best for the future.”
The AFL Trade Period runs until 7:30pm on Wednesday, October 12.
The GIANTS have improved their draft position to currently hold picks 3, 12, 19, 21, 43 and 59 at the NAB AFL Draft in late November.
