GIANTS utility Lachlan Keeffe and forward Daniel Lloyd have both signed contract extensions that will see the pair remain at the club.
Keeffe has played a variety of positions for the GIANTS over the past few seasons and will remain at the club in 2023 after inking a new one-year deal.
At 204cm, he adds enormous versatility to the GIANTS’ list, able to play as a back-up ruckman or key defender, while also showing he can hit the scoreboard when he’s thrown up forward.
Picked up as a delisted free agent in 2017, the 32-year-old played 40 games at Collingwood before moving to Sydney where he has played 57 games for the GIANTS.
“I’m really happy to be sticking around at the GIANTS for another season,” Keeffe said.
“I love living in Sydney and I’ve made some great friendships at the club.
“We didn’t have the season we wanted to this year but it’s an exciting time for us with a new head coach coming in. We’ve got a talented group, so I’m looking forward to a big pre-season and seeing what we can do to turn it around in the new year” he added.
Lloyd has also put pen to paper on a one-year contract that will see him remain in the orange and charcoal in 2023.
Hailing from the NSW Central Coast, Lloyd spent time at the Western Bulldogs through the NSW Scholarship Program as a teenager but didn’t make it onto an AFL list until he was selected by the GIANTS at pick 26 in the 2015 Rookie Draft as a 23-year-old.
The former carpenter starred in a semi-final for Killarney Vale in the Black Diamond League that GIANTS assistant Mark McVeigh was watching, booting nine-goals, and ultimately earning himself a spot on the GIANTS list.
He's kicked 63 goals in his 78 games for the club over the past six seasons and is pleased to be playing-on for the GIANTS.
“I’m really happy to have re-signed,” Lloyd said.
“The GIANTS have become an extension of our family here in Sydney, and we love being a part of this club.
“It’s been an unbelievable journey so far and I’m excited to be continuing it at the GIANTS,” he added.
GIANTS General Manager of Football Jason McCartney said the re-signing of the duo was another boost for the club heading into a new era under Adam Kingsley.
“Lachlan and Daniel are both important senior players in our group, and provide another level of leadership for our young players coming through both on and off the field,” McCartney said.
“Both have unique stories in how they’ve got to this stage and have shown terrific resilience and dedication over the years.
“The club is embarking on a new direction under Adam Kingsley and we’re pleased to have these two a part of that.”
The 2022 Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period commences on Monday 3rd of October.
