The GIANTS will be bolstered by the return of inaugural number one draft pick Nicola Barr ahead of the first-ever Sydney Derby.

The 26-year-old returns to the GIANTS’ line-up for the first time this season after overcoming a knee complaint in the off-season.

The defender-turned-forward has the ability and versatility to play all over the ground with her elite endurance and experience a valuable addition as the GIANTS search for their first win of the season.

As announced earlier on Friday, the GIANTS have also named two debutants, including the club’s first draft pick from the most recent draft, Zarlie Goldsworthy.

The 17-year-old is still finishing school in Albury and joined the GIANTS following a successful junior soccer career, having spent time in the junior Matildas program.

Goldsworthy has already shown her athleticism and power across the pre-season, kicking multiple goals in both practice matches earlier this season playing through the midfield, while also being able to go forward. She was sidelined over the opening rounds with a shoulder injury.

Also named is young Tasmanian Meghan Gaffney, who has promised to bring her energy and excitement to the line up.

The 19-year-old is a hard-running small forward, who cracks in and owns her position. She is a natural ball hunter whose weapon is her speed, with the GIANTS securing her with pick 66 in the 2022 NAB AFLW Draft.

The GIANTS have lost three players to injury with Pepa Randall (ACL), Tait Mackrill (foot stress fracture) and Chloe Dalton (hamstring injury) out of this week’s game.

The GIANTS take on the Swans at the SCG on Saturday.
