The GIANTS will continue season seven of the NAB AFL Women’s competition without key defender Pepa Randall.
Scans on Monday morning have confirmed that Randall has ruptured her ACL and suffered an MCL strain.
The incident happened late in the second quarter of the GIANTS’ round two clash with the Brisbane Lions on Sunday in Canberra.
Randall will meet with a surgeon on Monday afternoon to discuss her rehabilitation plan.
GIANTS Head Coach Cam Beransconi said he felt for the GIANTS leader.
“It’s obviously devastating news for Pepa, but we’re a team and a family here at the GIANTS and we’ll be by her side, supporting her every step of the way,” he said.
“Pepa will continue to play a huge role in this team moving forward. She’s a great leader both on and off the field and I can’t speak highly enough of her and her leadership.
“We’ve got a young and emerging list of players so it’s a great opportunity for some of them to step up and play their role for the team.”
The GIANTS next face the Swans in the first-ever Sydney Derby in the AFL Women’s competition this Saturday, at the SCG.
