Two young GIANTS have been confirmed to make their AFL debuts this weekend with, Matt Buntine and Sam Darley named in the GIANTS 25 man squad to take on the Brisbane Lions this Sunday.

Sam Reid, Will Hoskin-Elliott, and Adam Tomlinson come back into the side while Nathan Wilson, Anthony Miles and Sam Schulz have all been named on the extended bench.

Watch Kevin Sheedy run through his side:

Should Schulz be selected tomorrow he will also be making his AFL debut. Buntine and Darley will become the 25th and 26th GIANTS to make their AFL debuts in 2012.

Adam Kennedy (shoulder) and Liam Sumner (foot) are injured, while Devon Smith, Tom Bugg and Dylan Shiel have all been rested after playing in all seven games this year.

Sam Darley was pre selected by the GIANTS as a 17 year old in 2010. Recruited from North Hobart the hard running half back has impressed for the GIANTS in the NEAFL in 2012.

Matthew Buntine, who today re-signed with the GIANTS until the end of 2015, was drafted by the GIANTS in 2011 with pick number five from the Dandenong Stingrays An astute-decision maker, Buntine is a tough defender who uses the ball well.

Sam Schulz joined the GIANTS 2010 as a NSW zone selection. Originally from Culcairn, Shulz gained attention for his tough performances in the midfield for the NSW/ACT Rams as well as the Bushrangers in the TAC Cup.

Kevin Sheedy said that while the GIANTS were extremely happy with the win against the Gold Coast Suns, the club will continue to move players through the senior side, giving new GIANTS the opportunity to step up at the AFL level.

“This week we again have three boys in the mix to make their debut. Obviously we will make the final selection tomorrow, but I’m looking forward to seeing what a player like Matty Buntine might be able to do in his first game.

“It’s important the we manage and monitor the load on our young players, particularly boys like Devon Smith and Dylan Shiel who have played every game.

We need to be conscious of the impact the amount of travel we have to undertake has on these young players.”
