Where and When: Saturday July 16, 1.45pm, Manuka Oval

Last time they met:

Brisbane put on a dominant third quarter performance to overcome a horror start and defeat the GIANTS by 14-points in round 11 at the Gabba. The Lions trailed by 30-points midway through the first term, before doing enough to claim a 16.14 (110) to 15.6 (96) win. In what was Mark McVeigh's second game in charge, the GIANTS lost no admirers, continuing to charge in the final term when the game looked over. Toby Greene kicked four goals, while Josh Kelly (31 disposals and two goals) and Harry Himmelberg also influenced.

What it means for the GIANTS:

The GIANTS have won three times under interim coach Mark McVeigh now, but were far from their best against Port Adelaide last weekend. Saturday’s encounter with the Lions will provide the GIANTS with a great opportunity bounce back as they look to claim their first win in Canberra since 2019.

Where’s the opposition at?

Brisbane fell to Essendon by 10-points last weekend, leaving Chris Fagan’s side clinging to fourth place on the ladder. The Lions were decimated by injury and COVID ahead of their clash with the Bombers, but could recall Keidean Coleman, Callum Ah Chee, Dan McStay Harris Andrews, Dayne Zorko, Jarrod Berry, Daniel Rich and Jaxon Prior ahead of their trip to Canberra.

Player watch:

Isaac Cumming will bring up his 50th AFL game on Saturday afternoon at Manuka Oval. Selected with pick 20 in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft, Cumming enjoyed a breakout season in 2021, establishing himself as one of the game’s best intercepting and rebound defenders, and finished equal-sixth in the 2021 Kevin Sheedy Medal. The GIANTS Academy product from Broken Hill is averaging 25 disposals, 6.9 rebounds and 2.3 tackles so far in 2022.

In the mix:

There’ll be a few changes on the menu ahead of Saturday's game in Canberra, following injuries to veteran Phil Davis (hamstring) and Adam Kennedy (concussion). The GIANTS will be boosted by the return of gun midfielder Jacob Hopper, with Mark McVeigh confirming on Tuesday that the 25-year-old is ready after impressing in the VFL. Connor Idun will be available after coming out of the AFL's health and safety protocols and should return, with Jake RiccardiJarrod Brander, Jake Stein, Cooper Hamilton, Will Shaw, Cameron Fleeton and Wade Dersken all to come into consideration.
