In the GIANTS’ round 11 clash with Geelong, Rory Lobb took a season-defining mark which is now in contention for the AFL’s Mark of the Year.
Running back with the flight of the ball, Lobb - in just his 22nd AFL game - ignored any regard for his own safety and leapt into the forming pack to take the mark on his chest, while colliding heavily with Geelong’s Daniel Menzel.
It was compared to some of the most courageous marks of all time, including Jonathan Brown’s 2002 Mark of the Year winner and Nick Reiwoldt’s incredible mark in 2004.
For Lobb, the mark represented how far he had come and how much he was willing to put on the line to stay in the GIANTS' best 22.
Now Lobb - like Brown - has the chance to win Mark of the Year, with his courageous and unselfish mark that is completely unlike the spectacular, high-flying marks taken by his competitors.
To win the 2016 Woolworths AFL Mark of the Year, Lobb must collect the most public votes ahead of North Melbourne’s Majak Daw and Essendon’s Joe Daniher.
Daw’s towering mark in round 18 against Collingwood and Daniher’s round 16 hanger will be tough to beat but they don’t have an element that Lobb’s does; courage.
Fans' votes will determine 2016's Mark of the Year, to be announced during the Brownlow Medal presentation on Monday, September 26.
Get behind Lobb and VOTE NOW.
