The GIANTS are proud to support charity partner Soldier On ahead of this Sunday's ANZAC weekend clash against St Kilda.
Both the GIANTS and Saints have strong partnerships with Soldier On, who help returned Australian servicemen and women wounded while serving their country, with the organisation the official partner of this weekend's game between the two sides.
Soldier On works to enhance recovery, inspire communities and empower Australians who have suffered physical and psychological injuries while in the Defence forces.
The GIANTS launched their partnership with Soldier On at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra in February, 2015.
The GIANTS work with Soldier On through a range of initiatives in Western Sydney and Canberra including fundraising support, inner sanctum experiences for veterans and mentoring programs. Last season the GIANTS supplied 162 tickets and gave 33 families the opportunity to witness live AFL.
One recipient wrote: "Thanks GWS GIANTS and Soldier On for providing these tickets. As you can see from the kid’s faces they had a ball. It was the first time in a long time that I have smiled just seeing how happy they were. It means the world to me and my family that the GIANTS and Soldier On provide the support and opportunities that they do."
The GIANTS and St Kilda are two of Soldier On’s sporting partners and come together to support this great cause ahead of Sunday’s match between the two sides at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne.
This ANZAC Day Soldier On will pay tribute to those that have given their lives for this great country by looking after those that have been affected by their service.
Since forming on ANZAC Day 2012, Soldier On has continued to grow and respond to an increasing request for services by affected veterans. They now have Reintegration and Recovery Centres in Adelaide, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Perth as well as a presence at the Currumbin RSL in Queensland.
Some of their other sporting partners include the ACT Brumbies, the Australian Ice Hockey League and the ACT Meteors.
St Kilda are Soldier On’s national AFL sporting partner and have also worked with the charity to provide once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for the wounded.
Soldier On will also be the official community partner when the GIANTS take on the Hawks on April 30 in their first game at Spotless Stadium for the season.
Soldier On is funded through the generous support of the Australian public. To find out more about Soldier On visit our website www.soldieron.org.au. To donate $5 to Soldier On to support Australian Veterans and their families SMS ‘Support’ to 0400 866 866.
