For the first time the GIANTS will wear a specially designed jumper to celebrate the 2016 Toyota AFL Multicultural Round when they face Collingwood at Spotless Stadium on Saturday.
The GIANTS and Australia for UNHCR have teamed up to create the GIANTS’ inaugural Multicultural jumper which will be worn this weekend.
Australia for UNHCR raises funds to support the UN Refugee Agency’s global emergency response activity around the world and is the proud charity partner of Saturday’s match.
The design features interlocking hands on the front, representing solidarity between all people, standing together and living life in unity and harmony.
The colours for the hands were taken from the AFL’s Multicultural Round logo which celebrates diversity and inclusion and visually represents the six different regions of the world.
The design brings together the vivid icons that symbolise the collective strength of diversity and represent the vibrancy and passion of multiculturalism in football.
Cultural paintings, sculptures, architecture, tapestry and embroidery through history were researched to create shapes to simply and boldly represent the cultural regions of: Africa, Asia, Australasia, Europe, North and South America.
The Indigenous art in the background of the jumper reflects the richness and diversity of Indigenous cultures, connecting past and present, the people and the land.
The design reflects the true definition of multiculturalism in Australia – diversity, belonging, acceptance, respect, commitment and identity.
The jumper design features the Australia for UNHCR logo and the hashtag #EverybodyBelongs.

In 2016, the number of people forced to flee their homes has now exceeded 65million, the highest since the second world war. In Syria alone, more than 10 million people have been forced to flee their homes, including almost five million forced to leave the country entirely.
Through the work of Australia for UNHCR, Australians donated over $32 million last year to help UNHCR provide emergency relief such as shelter, food, water and sanitation to those caught in humanitarian emergencies.
Australians can support the UN Refugee Agency’s global emergency response by visiting www.unrefugees.org.au to make a donation.
