Forwards Daniel Lloyd and Jesse Hogan will need to get through full training on Wednesday to put their hands up to feature in the blockbuster Sydney Derby at Accor Stadium on Saturday.
Lloyd was concussed in the GIANTS’ last hit-out against Collingwood in the AAMI Community Series and is following the concussion protocols to return to play in round one.
Hogan missed the AAMI Community Series match after reporting soreness following the practice match in Albury the week prior.
GIANTS Head of Medical Services James Rahme said:
“Daniel has progressed well since his concussion almost a fortnight ago. He’s followed the 12-day protocols and needs to tick off contact work on Wednesday but he’s had a strong recovery and we expect him to be available to play.
“We’ve been cautious with Jesse all pre-season given his injury history so when he reported soreness we backed off his training. He’s been cleared of any injury and now it’s about getting the work in to ensure he’s ready to return to the field.”
Second-year forward Conor Stone will miss five-to-seven weeks with a grade two hamstring injury suffered in the AAMI Community Series.
“It’s disappointing for Conor who’s had a faultless pre-season,” Rahme said.
“He did struggle with some hamstring injuries in his first season last year so we will be cautious and make sure he’s 100 per cent ready to go before he returns to the field but the first part of his rehabilitation since his injury has been positive.”
Zach Sproule (shoulder), Brent Daniels (foot) and Jack Buckley (knee) are continuing their rehab from long-term injuries.
The GIANTS take on the Swans in a blockbuster opening round of the AFL season with Sydney Derby XXIII to be played at Accor Stadium this Saturday, March 19. Tickets are available from Ticketek.
