Last Time They Met: It will have been one-week shy of a year since the two sides last met, with the GIANTS last taking on the Cats in round eight of season 2021 on March 20. The match was played at GMHBA Stadium and despite low scoring, the seven-point win kept the GIANTS’ finals hopes alive. The GIANTS got on the board early thanks to Haneen Zreika, but then fought off a surging Cats who were doing all they could to restrict the GIANTS but struggled to convert. In a desperate effort the GIANTS were able to stop the Cats from making too much of an impact on the scoreboard and held onto the lead at the final siren.
Tv & Online: The match will be broadcast live from 6:00pm (AEDT) on 7Mate in NSW and ACT, as well as Foxtel, Kayo and the Official AFLW App.
What it means for the GIANTS: Despite finals being out of reach for the GIANTS, the intent and purpose does not change, with their pride on the line to finish the season playing the brand of footy they know they can. The GIANTS enter the final round of the regular home and away season having recorded just three wins.
Where’s the Opposition at: The Cats are in a similar position to the GIANTS, with their season ending at the conclusion of this Friday’s match and currently sitting 12th on the ladder.
The Number: 10 - is the highest number of matches the GIANTS have played in a season.
In the Mix: At least two openings will become available for the final match of the season, with star midfielders Alyce Parker (concussion) and Chloe Dalton (suspension) not available. Clutch goal-kicker Katherine Smith will be hoping to make her return to the side for the final game of the season, as will some of the sides young and emerging talent that will hopefully field the GIANTS side of the future.
