Last Time They Met: The GIANTS last met the Blues in the final round of the home and away season at Blacktown International Sportspark. It was a nail-biter, with the final margin just one point in favour of the Blues. The narrow loss ended the GIANTS’ hopes of a second finals appearance and brought their 2021 season to an end. Rebecca Beeson and Alyce Parker were influential for the GIANTS, while Tait Mackrill and Cora Staunton were the contributors on the scoreboard.

TV & Online: The match will be broadcast live from 7:00pm (AEDT) on 7Mate in NSW and ACT, as well as Foxtel, Kayo and the Official AFLW App.

What it Means for the GIANTS: The GIANTS come off a clutch one-point win against St Kilda on Wednesday. With just a four-day break, they’ll enter Sunday’s match needing another win to keep their finals hopes alive.

Where’s the Opposition At: The Blues come off a convincing round seven win, defeating St Kilda by 46 points and restricting them to just two points for the match. Recording just the two wins so far this season (rounds two and seven), Carlton sit 11th on the ladder.

The Number: 7 – The GIANTS’ number #7, Katie Loynes, will be expected to come up against her former side for the first time in round eight. The inaugural Blue finished her career with Carlton against the GIANTS in round nine last season and then made the move to the GIANTS during the 2021 signing period. The GIANTS’ former number #7, Jess Dal-Pos, is also expected to be part of Sunday’s action, with the former GIANT now donning the navy jumper.

In the Mix: Midfielder Bec Beeson will be a test for this weekend, having been out with an ankle injury since round two. Erin McKinnon will also be available for selection, subject to passing all her tests, after missing the last two matches due to the AFL’s concussion protocols.
