Seven players from New South Wales academies found their way on to AFL lists at the 2014 NAB AFL Draft and not all of them ended up at the GIANTS and the Swans.

PM CAPITAL GIANTS Academy players Jack Steele (pick 24) and Jeremy Finlayson (pick 85) both officially joined the GIANTS following last month’s NAB AFL Academy Players Bidding Meeting.

Fellow Academy graduates Dougal Howard and Logan Austin were snapped up by Port Adelaide at picks 56 and 69 respectively.

Howard, of Wagga Wagga and Austin, of Canberra, were both part of the PM CAPITAL GIANTS Academy program to give young players from NSW and the ACT a pathway to AFL football.

“The club had a couple of late picks and we were going to look at (selecting) Dougal and Logan but they were gone by the time our turn came around,” Cameron said.

“We were disappointed we couldn’t get the boys before they went but Port Adelaide should be applauded for their choice.

“It’s a great result for footy and we think it’s fantastic the academies are producing players for AFL clubs all over the country.

“It’s something everyone can benefit from.”

The Swans also officially secured the services of their Academy trio Isaac Heeney, Jack Hiscox and Abaina Davis with picks 18, 38 and 70.

Last year the GIANTS drafted Jake Barrett as a NSW zone selection while Zac Williams, another former PM CAPITAL GIANTS Academy graduate, was picked up by the club in 2012.
