Greater Western Sydney GIANTS small forward Liam Sumner and defenders Stephen Gilham and Nick Haynes will return to the side against North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

The GIANTS have brought in five players to the 25-man squad with Shaun Edwards and Setanta O’hAilpin also named on an extended bench.

Sumner will play his first match for the GIANTS since round four while Haynes will add to his two games played this season in rounds four and five.

Midfielder Stephen Coniglio and 2012 number three draft pick Lachie Plowman have been omitted.
Coniglio and Plowman will be joined in the UWS GIANTS team by co-Captain Phil Davis who’ll play his first match since April due to a back complaint.

Davis’ last match was against Gold Coast at StarTrack Oval Canberra in Round five, and he’ll return to the ACT this weekend with the UWS GIANTS playing Queanbeyan at Dairy Farmers Park.
GIANTS coach Kevin Sheedy says he’s looking forward to the round 14 match against the Kangaroos following the bye.

“Both teams are coming off disappointing losses and it’s going to be a terrific game down there at Etihad Stadium,” said Sheedy.

“After a disappointing first half against Port Adelaide, I think we did pretty well after half time and the previous week against Geelong for three quarters we were very good.

“Stephen Gilham comes back in and he’s an experienced player with 100 games behind him and we need that experience to help our young back line.

“Liam Sumner comes into the line up and gets his chance after some good performances in the reserves.

“Nick Haynes will also definitely play after some impressive form for the UWS GIANTS in the NEAFL,” he said.

Sheedy said it was tough to leave out Stephen Coniglio, but is confident the 19 year old will come back a better player.

“He needs to go back to the NEAFL and work on the defensive side of his game while still getting his hands on the ball, but he’s a quality player with a big future at the GIANTS so I don’t expect him to be out for too long,” said Sheedy.
