GIANTS defender Zac Williams has suffered a ruptured achilles that will see the 23-year old sidelined for an extended period of the 2018 season.
The injury occurred during training on Friday morning at Tom Wills Oval.
Williams will meet with a specialist on Monday to assess the injury and decide if surgery is required.
GIANTS Head of Athletic Performance David Joyce said: “This is a really unfortunate injury for Zac who had been training really well throughout the pre-season so far.
“Zac will meet with a specialist early next week to determine the extent of the injury which will allow us to then map out the best possible management pathway.”
The GIANTS are less than a month away from AFLX which will be held at Allianz Stadium on Saturday, February 17 before getting the JLT series underway on Thursday, March 1 at UNSW Canberra Oval.
