With 13 days until the Battle of the Bridge,  today we start looking  at 13 GIANTS to watch in 2013.

Over the next fortnight we will profile a different GIANTS players each day as we count down to the match against the Sydney Swans at ANZ Stadium on March 30.

First up is exciting forward and 2012 number one draft pick, Jonathon Patton.

What's in store for 2013?

GIANT forward Jonathon Patton is ready to make a big impact in 2013 after his first injury free AFL pre-season and committing to the club until the end of 2015.

The 197cm number one draft pick was sidelined until round 12, 2012 after having a knee operation for a patella tendon injury in Sweden last January. Despite this he still managed seven games and kicked four goals.

With a full pre-season under his belt, Patton is set to step up in the forward line in 2013 alongside Jeremy Cameron.

Many experts have been impressed by Patton's ability to win the contested football and have likened his size and agility to Hawthorn's Buddy Franklin.

What the coaches had to say:

Alan McConnell, Forwards Coach

"Jonny's been able to participate in far more pre-season this year without the knee issues that he had in 2012.

"He's covering big kilometres in games and getting to lots of contests. He's shown good agility at his feet and good recovery skills.

"We're looking for him to play with a big physical presence in 2013."

Dermott Brereton, Part-time Forwards Coach

"His ability to drill run and lead in three or four different directions in one go is fantastic. He's developing a man's wind tank now which will take him a long long way.

"His improvement has been rapid but he's still a work in progress."

What Patton had to say:

"I'm coming in on the back of my first full pre-season so I just want to get as much experience out on the field as possible with superstars of the AFL.

"Fitness is a big one for me this year. I want to be able to run out games and put four quarters of football together."
