Young midfielder Xavier O’Halloran has been ruled out of Saturday’s elimination final against the Swans with a calf injury.
O’Halloran was subbed out of Saturday night’s win over the Blues with scans revealing a calf strain.
“It’s disappointing for X,” said GIANTS Head of Medical Cullan Ball.
“He definitely won’t play this week and then we’ll see how it settles and whether we can ramp him up should we have a game the following week.”
Young midfielder Tom Green is expected to be available for selection after recovering from a hamstring injury.
“Tom’s coming along well and has done a lot of hard training, particularly in the last week,” Ball said.
“He’ll need to complete main training this week but if he does, we expect him to be available for selection.”
Irishman Callum Brown is also a test for this week.
Meanwhile, draftee Jacob Wehr broke his foot during a VFL practice match on Sunday.
The rebounding defender will see a specialist this week but the injury will rule him out of the remainder of the season.
Ruckman Braydon Preuss made a successful return from shoulder and pec injuries in the same practice match, playing the full 80 minutes in the ruck.
Small forward Bobby Hill also had his first full hit-out since coming out of the transition hub in Queensland.
Captain Stephen Coniglio featured in that game after playing 15 minutes as the medical sub at AFL level the night before.
The GIANTS take on the Swans in an elimination final at UTAS Stadium in Launceston at 3:20pm on Saturday.
