A silky-smooth wingman with the ability to play on ball, Callaghan was the GIANTS’ first pick in the 2021 AFL Draft after bursting onto the scene with dominant performances with the Sandringham Dragons. Callaghan made his debut in round five of 2022 and has quickly impressed in GIANTS colours, taking out the club’s Rising Star Award in 2023. With an ability to play both as an inside and outside midfielder, and possessing a booming left-foot and an explosive step out of congestion, Callaghan is one of the brightest young midfielders in the competition. He continued his rapid development throughout the 2024 season where he averaged 23 disposals per game to solidify himself as a key piece of the GIANTS’ midfield despite his young age. Already signed until the end of the 2025 season, Callaghan reinforced his commitment to the club with a new four-year deal on the eve of the 2025 season to tie him to the club until the end of the 2029 AFL season.
