One of the classiest and most skilful players in the competition, Whitfield has been one of the GIANTS and the AFL’s most damaging players for more than a decade since being taken with the number one pick in the 2012 AFL Draft. A great decision maker and an elite ball user on either side of his body, Whitfield has cemented himself as a star of the competition playing as either a dashing half-back or as a hard-running winger. Moved from the wing to the unfamiliar position of the backline in 2018, Whitfield quickly became one of the best half-backs in the competition on his way to his first All-Australian blazer as well as the 2018 Kevin Sheedy Medal. Two years later, the silky-smooth mover became the first GIANT to become a two-time club champion when he tied with Nick Haynes for the 2020 Kevin Sheedy Meal. Remarkably Whitfield took his game to even greater heights last year to be named in the 2024 All-Australian side after a brilliant season which saw him finish as the competition’s leading disposal getter. Playing every game of the season, the two-time Kevin Sheedy Medallist - and now two-time All Australian - averaged a career-high 30.9 disposals to go along with 7.3 marks, 5.8 rebound-50s, and 4.3 scoring involvements per game.
