Hawthorn will head to the nation’s capital for the very first time in a Friday night blockbuster at UNSW Canberra Oval.
The AFL today released details of one of the GIANTS’ three matches in the nation’s capital with the full 2019 Toyota AFL Premiership Season fixture to be revealed at noon on Thursday.
The Hawks have never travelled to play at UNSW Canberra Oval but will do so in 2019 for the Friday night fixture on August 9.
It will be the GIANTS’ second-ever home Friday night fixture, following a sell-out clash with the Western Bulldogs in 2017, and will be televised live nationally on Channel 7.
The GIANTS currently hold a nine-match winning streak at the venue and have won 11 of their past 12 games at UNSW Canberra Oval, dating back to 2015.
The GIANTS have won three of their past four matches against the Hawks, and the other match up resulting in a draw, with the GIANTS last going down to the brown and gold back in 2014.
The powerhouse Victorian club have an enviable ability to remain competitive at the top of the ladder, missing the finals just twice over the past 12 years, while also claiming four premierships.
The GIANTS will be aiming for their fourth consecutive finals series and are set to once again bring three high-quality matches to the nation’s capital for their strong member and supporter base.
The GIANTS will also play a pre-season JLT Community Series match at UNSW Canberra Oval against the Adelaide Crows on Friday, March 8 with the AFL Women’s team to host a blockbuster against Geelong the following Friday night on March 15.
