GIANTS vice-captain Stephen Coniglio will miss 10 weeks with an ankle injury sustained in the three-point win over Collingwood on Saturday.
Coniglio suffered a syndesmosis injury in the fourth quarter at Spotless Stadium and has undergone surgery on Monday.
GIANTS Head of Athletic Performance David Joyce said: “It’s always disappointing to lose a player for an extended period of time, but especially one of the calibre of Stephen who’s already had an interrupted start to the season.
“The damage to Stephen’s ankle is significantly worse than the previous injury so he’ll undergo surgery before commencing a thorough rehabilitation program.
“We have no doubt that Stephen will attack his rehabilitation with the same diligence he does all areas of his football and will return to the field in peak condition later in the season.”
Defender Aidan Corr and forward Sam Reid will be monitored closely in the coming days after both players left the field early due to concussion.
A decision on their availability to play next weekend will be made later in the week.
Meanwhile, defender Jeremy Finlayson suffered a groin injury in the NEAFL on Saturday and will miss 2-3 weeks.
The GIANTS host Richmond at Spotless Stadium on Saturday at 4.35pm. Tickets available through Ticketmaster..
